Acts of Kindness by Rose Ferrero Students – Mrs. Basetti’s Class visits Eden Valley Care Center- Stargirl was one of the main characters in the novel Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. Throughout the story she did random acts of kindness. The class really liked her unique style of “being herself” and not changing for anybody… not even her boyfriend. In addition her best character trait was doing small acts of kindness for everybody… Not just to her classmates, or her close friends, or favorite teacher…even to strangers. Mrs. Bassetti thought it would be a great idea to extend Stargirl’s contagious acts of kindness to the community. That’s when she met up with Mrs. Pamela from Eden Valley Care Center in Soledad and came up with Adopt a Grandparent. Her students were very nervous at first; however, when they arrived at Eden Valley and met the eldery residents, they just blossomed and showed the residents so much love!!! Her students went on their own and started introducing themselves and asking their adoptive grandparents many questions. Before you knew it they created a remarkable bonding together. They didn’t want to leave… So they decided to visit one or twice a month. They are looking forward to their next visit. Mrs. Bassetti was so pleased and touched by this experience. She said her only regret was that she should have done this sooner. But things happen for reason. With that said, Mrs. Bassetti is grateful that it did and it happened on Valentine’s Day… the of day of LOVE.
