Immigration Resources

At Soledad Unified School District, we are all committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environment for all students and families—regardless of immigration status. In light of concerns related to immigration enforcement activity, we want to ensure our community is well-informed about your rights and the support available.

If you are concerned about immigration enforcement possibly impacting your family, the following steps are recommended:

  1. Familiarize yourself with community resources in this Family Preparedness Toolkit (English and Spanish) and from Monterey County. The resources include information on legal rights, healthcare, education, community services, and ways to support the mental health of families.

  1. Complete a Childcare Safety Plan

  1. Complete a Caregiver’s Authorization Affidavit (English and Spanish). A Caregiver's Authorization Affidavit is a legal document in California that allows a caregiver (someone not the parent or legal guardian) to enroll a child in school and consent to school-related medical care. It also grants certain medical care decision-making rights to relatives caring for a child. This affidavit streamlines the process for caregivers to access essential services for the child without needing formal guardianship. Leave blank for the authorized caregiver to complete in the case of separation. If you need help completing this form, please contact your school’s front office or the Soledad Family Resource Center (contact information below).

  1. Complete this document with Important Information for your Designated Caregiver

  1. Gather the (a) Childcare Safety Plan, (b) Caregiver’s Authorization Affidavit, (c) Important Information for your Designated Caregiver, and (d) all important documents that your child’s caregiver may need to care for your child.

  1. Ensure your child’s emergency contact information is updated in the school office.

  1. Have an age-appropriate conversation with your child about their trusted adults. Let your child know who will pick them up and care for them if you are unable to for some reason.

Soledad USD does not collect or share immigration status information about students or families. Additionally, our staff members have been trained on how to respond if law enforcement comes to any of our campuses.

For concerns or support, please contact the front office of your child’s school.

We stand with our students and families.
