The Soledad Unified School District is a public school district which provides educational and support services to approximately 4,732 students Transitional Kindergarten through 12th grade as well as to 140 preschool students hundreds of adult school students.

 

The Soledad Unified School District (SUSD), like any public school district, has a range of organizational responsibilities to ensure the effective operation of its schools and support the academic, social, and emotional development of its students. Here are the key areas of responsibility:

 

1. Educational Services and Curriculum

  • Develop, implement, and monitor curriculum and instructional programs.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal educational standards.
  • Provide professional development and support for teachers and staff.
  • Offer specialized services like special education and English learner programs,
  • Implement programs such as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) for a positive school environment.

 

2. Student Support Services

  • Address students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs through counseling and support services.
  • Provide health services, mental health resources, and extracurricular activities.
  • Ensure equitable access to resources for all students, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

 

3. School Operations and Safety

  • Maintain safe, clean, and well-functioning school facilities.
  • Implement safety protocols, emergency procedures, and crisis management plans.
  • Oversee student transportation and nutrition services.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a secure learning environment.

 

4. Fiscal Services and Budgeting

  • Manage district finances, including budget planning, expenditure monitoring, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure timely payments to vendors, manage payroll, and maintain transparent accounting.
  • Oversee the allocation of resources to schools, departments, and programs.
  • Work with the Chief Business Official (CBO) and the Fiscal Services department to resolve financial challenges.

 

5. Human Resources and Staffing

  • Recruit, hire, and retain qualified teachers, administrators, and support staff.
  • Handle employee relations, including collective bargaining agreements, grievances, and benefits management.
  • Provide ongoing professional development and performance evaluations for staff members.

6. Community Engagement and Communication

  • Build partnerships with parents, families, and the broader community.
  • Communicate important district updates, initiatives, and policies.
  • Promote transparency and collaboration between the district, Board of Trustees, and other stakeholders.
  • Engage with the community through events, town halls, and regular updates on district activities.

 

7. Governance and Compliance

  • Work in collaboration with the Board of Trustees to set district policies, goals, and direction.
  • Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Oversee legal matters, compliance with labor laws, and adherence to educational standards.

 

8. Equity and Inclusion

  • Foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion across all schools and programs.
  • Ensure that underserved and marginalized student populations have access to high-quality education.
  • Address any issues of discrimination or bias within the district.
