San Vicente Elementary's New Classroom Building
San Vicente Elementary's New Classroom Building
Through Measure E, San Vicente Elementary will receive a new permanent classroom building to replace portable classrooms that have reached the end of their useful life. The project is being delivered together with a matching classroom building at Gabilan Elementary, with one design-build team designing and constructing both buildings.
Design-build pairs the architect and the builder on one team from the start of the project. For two similar buildings on two campuses, this allows the design to be reused, keeps cost and schedule in front of the team during design, and gives the District a single point of responsibility. The District is also open to Division of the State Architect (DSA) pre-checked building designs, which can shorten the design and approval timeline.
The new building will give students and teachers modern, accessible classrooms, along with outdoor spaces around the building that tie into the rest of the campus. The goal is to build as many classrooms as the project budget allows, with an equal number of classrooms at San Vicente and Gabilan.
Project team: Design-builder selection pending Board award. Program and Construction Manager, Van Pelt Construction Services.
Schedule: Design, DSA review, and construction are anticipated to take approximately 24 to 26 months from contract award. Completion dates will be posted once the design-build schedule is set.
